The Singer Not The Song
2007
three-channel video installation
approximately 20' x 4'

The Singer Not the Song contrasts footage of Mick Jagger performing at a free outdoor concert in 1969 with the mechanized perspective of recent surveillance footage. Made during the Bush era, when broadcast "levels of threat" heightened our experience of ourselves in relation to supposedly dangerous others, The Singer Not The Song reflects on the intensity of group affect and how entwined technological media is with any imagining of ourselves in relation to a “social body”.
