The piece centers around a figure caught in a vicious cycle of visibility and disappearance. Lifted from Scorcese’s 1983 film King of Comedy, the flattened comedian becomes a kind of everyman or stand-in persona. In an attempt to individuate himself and earn adulation, he steps in front of the camera only to disappear into the audience from which he is constructed.
